Using the library
Borrowing, renewing and returning items
Bring a valid LSBC ID when borrowing physical resources and keep track of due dates through your library account.
How do I borrow physical items?
Students and staff may borrow books and other eligible materials through the library help desk. A valid LSBC ID card is required at the time of borrowing.
How do I reserve, renew or return an item?
Use your e-Library account to view loans, place holds and renew eligible items. You can also visit the LRC to borrow, renew or return items and collect catalogue requests.
Renewal is normally possible before the due date when no other borrower has reserved the item and your account remains in good standing. Renewal emails confirm the new due date or advise when an item must be returned.
What charges apply to overdue items?
Overdue items that have been reserved by another user may incur a charge of £0.50 per day, per item, up to a maximum of £10 per item. If charges exceed £5, further borrowing is suspended until the balance is reduced to £5 or below.
What happens if an item is lost or damaged?
The borrower must replace lost or damaged material or pay the full replacement price stated for the item. Library clearance can only be completed after all borrowed items have been returned and outstanding matters resolved.
Note: Eligible teaching-practice items may be borrowed for up to 12 weeks.

Please use LSBC facilities, licensed databases and copyright material responsibly and respectfully.
User responsibilities and conduct
All users are expected to treat library facilities, staff and fellow users with dignity and respect, and to help maintain a safe and appropriate study environment. Unacceptable conduct may lead to loss of library access and referral under LSBC disciplinary procedures.
Electronic resources and privacy
Licensed databases are for authorised LSBC users and personal, non-commercial study. Users must not use automated crawlers, download entire journals, make excessive copies or republish licensed content. Library account and usage records are treated as confidential and accessed by staff only where required for library business.
Copyright and photocopying
Where the LSBC Copyright Licensing Agency licence applies, copying is generally limited to whichever is greater: up to 10% or one chapter of a book; up to 10% or one article from a journal issue; one paper from conference proceedings; or one short story or poem of no more than 10 pages.
Restrictions and excluded works apply. Printed music, maps, charts, newspapers, unpublished works and material excluded from CLA licensing are not covered. Always check current guidance before copying.
